Women’s Day – a celebration ?

Thousands of women of this country are going through tough times and facing trauma just because they have a married son or brother whose wife is eligible to misuse so called “Pro Women” laws against them. Their life is not a bed of roses and there’s nothing been done for their empowerment.

When they talk about women’s reservation, women’s education, laws for empowerment of women and claim that they have done enough … haven’t they simply satisfied a particular strata ? They have willfully neglected this section of the society who are unfortunately just “biologically” women. These women face mental harassment from their brother’s or son’s wife and have no law to prevent themselves against such acts of violence. Even the famous DVA designed for the protection of women from domestic violence has excluded them and made them vulnerable to harassment. These women do not get reservation as a minority community of victims. They do not have laws to protect them and these women are considered eligible for harassment from those who are in power. When the world is celebrating Women’s day, these women are struggling for their rights and waiting for justice.

It would be shameful on our part if we celebrate Women’s Day in this country where some women are not regarded as women just because they are related to a male (brother or son) ….. We infact need to observe an International Victims’ Day, and spare just a few hours to think about the plight of these people who have been victimized by some of those joyfully celebrating the so called “Women’s Day”…
